SAIL High School Foundation provides gift cards at vaccine clinic

via Tallahassee.com

The SAIL High School Foundation recently provided gift cards to motivate SAIL students and staff to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

SAIL High School and Neighborhood Medical Center partnered to offer mobile vaccination clinics on the SAIL High School campus. SAIL students and staff who received a vaccination through these clinics received a $25 gift card to Amazon or Starbucks.

“SAIL has had a remarkably low number of positive COVID cases this school year and we’re grateful for the many SAIL students and staff who have already been fully vaccinated,” said Rosanne Wood, member of the Leon County School Board and the SAIL Foundation Board. “But we want to try to get to 100% and hope these prizes are a great motivation toward that goal. In fact, we hope other school foundations and community groups follow our lead and offer prizes to incentivize their constituencies to reach 100% vaccination.”

The purpose of the SAIL Foundation is to support the development and implementation of school improvement initiatives and model programs; award grants and scholarships; and leverage community resources to support, strengthen and improve education at SAIL High School. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A Tallahassee high school is offering gift card prizes as an incentive for students and teachers to get vaccinated.

SAIL High School says they are partnering with Neighborhood Medical Center to offer a mobile vaccination clinic this Friday and Saturday morning at the school, located at 2006 Jackson Bluff Road.

The school says SAIL students and staff who receive a vaccine through the clinic will receive a $25 gift card to Amazon or Starbucks in hopes of convince those on the fence, to get the vaccine.

“Just hoping that maybe that will move that middle. Probably not the hardcore that don’t want the vaccine but the middle because we so need for people to get the vaccinations,” explained Wood. “We want to keep our kids, our families, our teachers our employees out of the hospital.”

Wood says she is very proud of SAIL for coming up with this innovative idea and hopes it will cause a domino effect for the rest of the district.

Friday’s clinic is for school staff, students and families only and will be open from 7-8 a.m.

Saturday’s clinic will be open to the entire community and will be open from 8 a.m.-12 p.m.

Parents getting to see SAIL from a new angle during COVID-19 | Opinion

There haven’t been a whole lot of silver linings to the pandemic, and even fewer for our schools. One wonderful benefit, however, is the bird’s eye (or more correctly, a laptop camera’s eye) view into our high schoolers’ classrooms.

Our kids attend SAIL High School — the School for Arts and Innovative Learning — and have been among the SAIL students attending the school’s Digital Academy.

SAIL is a small magnet public high school in Leon County, established 45 years ago by now-school board member Rosanne Wood, who served as its principal for 32 years. The school is known for its focus on the arts, its caring and supportive environment, and its non-traditional learning opportunities.

Students call their teachers and administrators by their first names, and the school counts among its alums many current SAIL teachers, as well as Mary Wharton (who was featured on the cover of the Tallahassee Democrat recently for her new film, “Jimmy Carter: Rock and Roll President”).

Students get ready to set ‘SAIL’ from Tallahassee’s alternative high school

A line of cars Thursday snaked through the drop-off lane at SAIL, the county’s nontraditional high school, as seniors dropped off textbooks and received their caps and gowns for next week’s drive-through graduation.

Though the coronavirus pandemic has prevented usual commencement ceremonies, the faculty and staff at SAIL — the School for Arts and Innovative Learning — made the best of the situation by preparing personalized signs and goody bags for each member of the 2020 graduating class.

To limit contact between students and faculty, items being returned to the school, including laptops and library books, were placed in a bag and handed to a staff member.

After that drop-off, the seniors headed over to the bus ramp where they would pop their trunks to have the gift bags and signs put in by staff members.
